Mrs. Whatley
Hi! I am Michelle Whatley, and I teach Spanish at Valley View High School. During the 2017-18 school year, I will teach Spanish II, III & IV. I am also the high school dance coach.
I am from Little Rock, AR. I graduated from ASU Jonesboro. I also have a Masters degree in English as a Second Language from Henderson State. I love to travel, and I am blessed to have had opportunities to go to many Spanish speaking countries including Peru, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. After graduating college, I lived in Spain for a year teaching English. I met my husband at ASU. After graduating ASU, he taught English in Korea for a year then worked to earn a double Masters in International Affairs and Sustainability from American University in Washington, D.C. He is now back at ASU working as the Assistant Director of the Honors College!
I use many different teaching methods in my classroom. This includes class discussions, authentic materials, gestures, story telling, culture, art, music, technology, videos, slide shows, games, projects, role-plays, research, and writing activities. My goal is to teach my students about culture and how to communicate in Spanish, but also encourage them to have respect for peoples of the world. I would love for my students to find a passion to travel and to even minor or major in Spanish in college and study abroad if possible! Please find the "Contact Me" link on my website if you have any questions or concerns! Thanks!
